Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from families. Anything else? Just reach out.

What ages do you provide care for?

We offer three programs: our Caterpillar Room (Infant & Toddler, ages 0–3), Chrysalis Room (Preschool, ages 2½–5), and Butterfly Room (After-School, ages 5–12). See our Programs page for full details.

Are you approved for CCFRI/CCOF funding?

Yes — we're approved for both the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI) and Child Care Operating Funding (CCOF), like the large majority of licensed centers in BC. Both are reflected automatically in your monthly rate, so there's nothing you need to apply for. See our Funding & Fees page for more detail.

What are your hours of operation?

We're open 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday through Friday. We're closed weekends, and we follow the standard BC statutory holiday schedule — any additional closures are always shared with families well in advance.

What should my child bring each day?

Pack multiple spare changes of clothes, a hat, indoor shoes, and weather-appropriate outdoor gear each day — see our parent handbook for the full list. Caterpillar Room families can also opt into our Diaper Program instead of packing diapers, wipes, and cream from home.

What is your policy for sick children?

If your child is sick, you're responsible for notifying us as soon as possible. If your child is found to be unwell at drop-off, we reserve the right to let you know that we won't be able to provide care until they've recovered.

We strictly follow Island Health's exclusion guidelines for common childhood illnesses. Full details are in our Family Policy Booklet — reach out any time if you'd like specifics before enrolling.

How do I get on the waitlist?

Submitting our online waitlist form automatically enters your family, and we follow up as promptly as possible. We conduct interviews with families as spaces become available. Go to our waitlist form.

Can we come for a tour first?

Yes! Text us directly to set up a visit. See our Book a Tour page.

Where are you located?

We're at 1450-1 Peninsula Road, Ucluelet, BC V0R 3A0 — on the Ucluelet Secondary School (SD70) campus, in the building known as Children's Grove. See the map on our Book a Tour page.

How do you handle behavior and big feelings?

Our foundational approach is rooted in evidence-informed behavioral and developmental strategies, led by Drew, our Early Years Behavioral Interventionist. Every educator is mentored and trained toward that same standard over time — it's a collaborative journey of growth, not something everyone arrives already knowing. Learn more about our philosophy on Accessibility & Inclusion. See the specific practices on Behavioral Practices & Resources.

How do I keep up with my child's day?

Every family gets access to our dedicated daily update app. Throughout the day, educators log real-time updates — rest cycle start/end times, meal and snack intake, diapering, and milestone notes — along with photos, straight to your phone. It's the easiest way to feel connected to your child's day even when you're not there.

This doesn't replace the conversations you have with your educators at drop-off and pickup — it enhances them, filling in the small moments in between.

Do you provide food, and what should I pack for lunch?

Yes — we provide balanced snacks daily, including fresh fruit, vegetables, and grains, at no added cost to your family. Please pack a nut-free lunch for your child, plus a water bottle; let us know about any allergies at enrollment so we can plan around them.

If your child has a food allergy, let us know at enrollment so we can build an individualized plan with you — from how we store and label their food to how the room is set up at snack and meal times.

How do you track each child's progress and daily observations?

We keep precise digital records of each child's daily observations and milestones, so nothing gets lost between educators or forgotten by pickup — it's part of how we tailor our approach to each child rather than relying on memory alone.

What are your health & safety practices?

We keep our rooms clean using the cleaning and sanitizing standards required under BC's child care licensing regulations, along with HEPA filtration and regular disinfecting of toys, surfaces, and shared spaces. It's simply part of how we keep every room ready for your child, day in and day out.

How do you handle pickup safety and building access?

By law, every pickup is registered and ID-verified — we keep an approved pickup list for each family and confirm identification before releasing a child to anyone we don't already know.

What we don't do is lock our doors or gate access with a buzzer and video intercom. We believe in transparency, so current families, new families, and expecting parents are always welcome to stop in and see the space for themselves — your child's safety and an open, accessible center aren't in conflict for us.
